Asphalt is a cost effective material which is known from major road construction where it has shown its reliability around the globe. It is commonly referred to as Tarmac, though modern production usually does not contain tar. A variety of aggregates are mixed with different bitumens or asphalts and other specialised ingredients to achieve the various properties desired for the different intended purposes. It can be produced in a wide variety of specifications to suite every project. Portwey has a long established relationship with its Suppliers, who have specially designed mixes for us to suit special conditions which we have used to great effect and which have since been used for many other projects around the country. It is also possible to add pigments into the mix, which enables the production of coloured tarmac. Red or green are commonly seen examples but it can be manufactured in other colours and even in shades resembling natural stones or sand. We can also provide a SUDS compliant mix, which usually means that there will be no planning permission required for its installation. And we can finish the project with some white lining or other thermoplastic markings, if desired.
